Philip Sutton Peter Pears His Patron

Availability: In stock

This is a book documenting the lives of Philip & Heather Sutton, through photographs and letters written around 1955 during a period of postwar turmoil within the arts. The singer Peter Pears bought paintings of Philip's work from the London gallery Roland, Browse and Delbanco, and encouraged by these sales, dealers began to actively promote Philip's work. Peter Pears offered Philip and Heather a cottage rent-free for the summer in Snape. It proved a successful union and they left nearly four years later. This intervention gave them a roof, peace, space and a chance to experiment. They felt extraordinarily lucky to have been given this opportunity and this book is their chance to say thank you.
